ESSENTIAL LIGHT – 2018
2018 · SOLO EXHIBITION
Galerie STP · Greifswald, Germany
ESSENTIAL LIGHT was a solo exhibition by Austrian fine art photographer Gerald Berghammer, presented at Galerie STP in Greifswald, Germany, from 3 February to 31 March 2018. The exhibition explored the relationship between light, atmosphere and photographic expression through a selection of minimalist black-and-white fine art photographs.
Bringing together landscapes, seascapes and architectural subjects, the exhibition reflected Berghammer's distinctive approach to composition, visual reduction and the expressive qualities of natural light. From atmospheric coastal landscapes to carefully structured urban scenes, his photographs revealed a quiet interplay of form, space and tonal contrast.
Created using traditional analogue photographic techniques, the works reflected Berghammer's dedication to craftsmanship and precise tonal control. Long exposures transformed movement into stillness, while carefully balanced compositions and expansive negative space emphasised the essential character of each subject, creating timeless and contemplative images.
ESSENTIAL LIGHT marked an important chapter in Berghammer's international exhibition history. Presented at Galerie STP, a gallery specialising in photographic art, the exhibition highlighted his continuing exploration of minimalist aesthetics, analogue photography and the ability of light to transform familiar landscapes into refined visual compositions.
