HASSELBLAD MASTERS 2021 – FINALIST

In 2021, Austrian fine art photographer Gerald Berghammer was selected as one of ten finalists in the Landscape/Nature category of the prestigious Hasselblad Masters international photography competition, recognising his distinctive approach to analogue black-and-white landscape photography.

His selected photograph depicts a precisely arranged row of solitary trees stretching across an expansive rural landscape. Captured on black-and-white negative film using a Hasselblad 500 C/M medium-format camera, the composition reflects Berghammer's artistic focus on minimalism, visual rhythm, symmetry and negative space.

The Hasselblad Masters 2021 competition attracted more than 63,000 photographic submissions across twelve categories. From these entries, 120 finalists were selected by the Hasselblad Internal Jury, with ten photographers shortlisted in each category.

Berghammer's selection as a finalist represents an important international recognition of his analogue photographic work. His restrained visual language, careful composition and emphasis on stillness continue to define his fine art photography and artistic practice.
