MINIMALIST BLACK-AND-WHITE WINTER
Gerald Berghammer’s black-and-white winter photography transforms snow-covered fields, frosted trees and mist into studies of silence, rhythm and negative space. Photographed primarily in Austria, with selected urban winter works from New York City, the series reduces seasonal landscapes to trunks, branches, horizons and subtle tonal transitions.
Hoarfrost, snow and fog simplify the landscape, while soft winter light isolates forms and creates a restrained sense of depth. Working with analogue and digital medium-format cameras, Berghammer explores the sculptural qualities of trees and the graphic structure of winter, creating photographs that move between landscape and abstraction.
