MADEIRA PEAKS STUDY 1 – PORTUGAL | GERALD BERGHAMMER
Madeira Peaks Study 1 by Austrian fine art photographer Gerald Berghammer is a limited-edition black-and-white fine art photograph of the dramatic mountain landscape of Madeira, Portugal. Rugged mountain ridges recede into soft atmospheric haze, while a narrow winding road follows the steep rocky slopes, introducing a subtle sense of scale and movement. The interplay of dark foreground cliffs, distant mist-covered peaks and delicate tonal transitions creates remarkable depth, visual balance and a contemplative sense of stillness.Photographed on the Portuguese island of Madeira in 2021, this minimalist mountain landscape reflects Berghammer’s distinctive approach to black-and-white landscape photography. Through precise composition, restrained monochrome tonality and the careful use of negative space, the photograph transforms Madeira’s rugged mountain scenery into a timeless study of light, atmosphere and natural form. Available as a limited-edition fine art print, the work is particularly suited to contemporary, Scandinavian and minimalist interiors, bringing depth, tranquillity and the dramatic character of Madeira into living rooms, bedrooms, offices and curated art collections.

THE ARTIST
Gerald Berghammer is an internationally award-winning Austrian fine art photographer known for his minimalist black-and-white landscape, seascape and architectural photography. His distinctive visual language is defined by precise compositions, refined tonal contrasts and a profound sense of stillness. Through visual reduction and long-exposure techniques, he transforms familiar landscapes and architectural subjects into timeless, contemplative works of art.At the heart of his photography is the relationship between light, atmosphere, form and negative space. Expansive horizons, softened water and carefully balanced geometric elements create compositions that transcend the literal representation of a place. By reducing each subject to its essential elements, Berghammer reveals subtle textures, delicate tonal transitions and the quiet beauty of simplicity.
Working with both traditional analogue photography and digital medium-format cameras, he combines technical precision with a distinctly artistic approach. His photographs have been exhibited internationally and recognised with prestigious distinctions, including a Gold Medal at the International Photography Awards and selection as a finalist in the Hasselblad Masters 2021.
As the founder of SILVERFINEART Gallery in Vienna, Austria, Berghammer presents his photographic work to an international audience of collectors and art enthusiasts. His fine art photographs are produced to archival standards and are available in carefully selected editions, offering a timeless aesthetic for private collections, contemporary interiors and architectural spaces.
