GRACHT STUDY 1 – NETHERLANDS | GERALD BERGHAMMER
Gracht Study 1 is a black-and-white fine art photograph by Austrian photographer Gerald Berghammer, capturing a quiet, tree-lined canal in the Netherlands. The composition reveals the understated beauty of the Dutch landscape, where dense vegetation, delicate branches and subtle reflections create a harmonious interplay of natural forms, light and water. The narrow canal leads the viewer into the landscape, its calm surface reflecting the trees and vegetation along the banks. Darker foreground elements contrast with the softly illuminated water, while intricate natural textures and delicate tonal gradations establish a subtle sense of depth. The carefully balanced composition transforms an ordinary rural waterway into a timeless study of symmetry, stillness and atmosphere.
Photographed in 2018, the work exemplifies Berghammer's minimalist approach to black-and-white landscape and waterscape photography. Through precise composition, restrained monochrome tones and careful attention to natural reflections, the photograph explores the relationship between structure, light and the quiet beauty of the everyday landscape.
This original archival pigment ink print, Edition 2/9, has previously been exhibited and is presented as the existing physical artwork in its original presentation. Signed, numbered and dated, the photograph is housed in a matt-black aluminium frame with a natural-white archival mount and anti-reflective glass offering 70% UV protection. Measuring 53 × 53 × 2.5 cm, the framed work is ready to hang and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
