EMIL – FIGURATIVE BRONZE SCULPTURE | NANDO KALLWEIT
Emil (2020) is a contemporary figurative bronze sculpture by German artist Nando Kallweit, presented as a serial unique work. Measuring 16 × 9 × 6 cm, the sculpture depicts a seated male figure characterised by elongated limbs, angular shoulders and a distinctly geometric head.
The composition is defined by an asymmetrical seated posture. One leg hangs vertically while the other extends horizontally, with the slender arms resting across the raised knee. The interplay of these contrasting directions creates a carefully balanced silhouette and a quiet sense of movement.
The dark, textured bronze surface reveals subtle variations in tone, with highlights accentuating the sharply defined contours and hand-worked character of the figure. Kallweit's reduction of anatomical detail places emphasis on proportion, gesture and the relationship between solid form and surrounding space.
Combining contemporary abstraction with recognisable human expression, Emil reflects Kallweit's distinctive sculptural language. Its compact scale and seated composition make it particularly suited to display on a shelf, pedestal or architectural ledge, where the extended limbs can interact with the surrounding space.
As a serial unique sculpture, Emil is an individually finished work within a series, distinguished from other examples by its particular execution. The bronze is signed by Nando Kallweit on the base.
