STILT HOUSE PK 53880 – FRANCE | GERALD BERGHAMMER
Stilt House PK 53880 is a black-and-white fine art photograph by Austrian photographer Gerald Berghammer, depicting a traditional fishing hut raised on wooden stilts along the Atlantic coast of France. The composition centres on an isolated fishing hut connected to the shore by a narrow wooden walkway extending across the water. Slender supporting poles and delicate fishing rigging create an intricate network of lines, while the long exposure transforms the surrounding sea into a smooth, almost ethereal surface. Dramatic clouds stretch across the expansive sky, creating a striking contrast between the fragile wooden structure and the vast coastal landscape.
The interplay of geometric forms, subtle tonal gradations and generous negative space lends the photograph a profound sense of stillness. The absence of people further emphasises the relationship between the man-made structure and its natural surroundings, creating a timeless, contemplative atmosphere.
Photographed on analogue film in 2013 and printed in 2016 as a traditional gelatin silver print on baryta paper, the work exemplifies Berghammer's minimalist approach to black-and-white long-exposure photography. Through careful visual reduction and refined tonal contrasts, the photograph transforms an ordinary coastal structure into a contemplative study of isolation, balance and the passage of time.
This original print, Edition 4/20, has previously been exhibited and is offered as the existing physical artwork in its original presentation. Signed, numbered and dated, the photograph is housed in a handmade black wooden frame with a natural white archival mount and anti-reflective glass offering 70% UV protection. Measuring 62 × 62 × 3 cm, the framed work is ready to hang and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Presented through the SILVERFINEART Exhibited Art collection, it represents an original exhibited artwork in its existing framed condition.
