AWARD WINNING BEACH STUDY 4 – SCOTLAND | GERALD BERGHAMMER
Award Winning Beach Study 4 is a black-and-white fine art photograph by Austrian photographer Gerald Berghammer, capturing dramatic coastal rock formations emerging from the sea along the rugged Scottish coastline. The composition reveals the sculptural beauty of this distinctive seascape, where dark, weathered rocks rise from softly rendered water beneath an expansive sky.A prominent cluster of coastal rocks dominates the composition, with a central formation providing a strong visual anchor while smaller rocky outcrops establish a subtle rhythm across the scene. The sharply defined geological textures contrast with the smooth, luminous water created through long-exposure photography. Restrained monochrome tones, delicate tonal transitions and generous negative space emphasise the sculptural presence of the rocks, creating an atmosphere of stillness and timelessness.
Photographed in 2012 and printed in 2024 as an archival pigment ink print, the work reflects Berghammer's minimalist approach to black-and-white seascape photography, emphasising natural forms, precise composition and the evocative interplay of light, texture and atmosphere. Through visual reduction, the rugged Scottish coastline becomes a contemplative study of nature, permanence and the passage of time.
This original print, Edition 3/9, has previously been exhibited and is offered as the existing physical artwork in its original presentation. Signed, numbered and dated, the photograph is housed in a matt-black aluminium frame with a natural-white archival mount and anti-reflective glass offering 70% UV protection.
