FOGGY MORNING STUDY 1 – AUSTRIA | GERALD BERGHAMMER
Foggy Morning Study 1 is a black-and-white fine art photograph by Austrian photographer Gerald Berghammer, depicting a solitary leafless tree standing in a mist-covered landscape in Austria.The composition centres on the distinctive silhouette of an isolated tree, its twisted trunk and intricately branching canopy emerging against a softly illuminated background of dense morning fog. Dark foreground tones gradually dissolve into the pale atmosphere, while subtle variations of light and shadow create a delicate sense of depth. The asymmetrical arrangement of the branches, restrained tonal palette and generous negative space emphasise the tree's sculptural character, conveying solitude, stillness and quiet contemplation.
Photographed in 2013, the work exemplifies Berghammer's minimalist approach to black-and-white landscape photography. Through careful composition, atmospheric depth and refined tonal gradations, the photograph transforms an ordinary natural subject into a timeless study of form, light and silence.
This original gelatin silver print on baryta paper, Edition 3/9, was produced in 2019 and has previously been exhibited. It is offered as the existing physical artwork in its original presentation. Signed, numbered and dated, the photograph is housed in a black wooden frame with a natural-white archival mount and anti-reflective glass offering 70% UV protection. Measuring 53.5 × 53.5 × 4.5 cm, the framed work is ready to hang and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
