ELSIE – FIGURATIVE BRONZE SCULPTURE | NANDO KALLWEIT
Elsie (2023) is a contemporary figurative bronze sculpture by German artist Nando Kallweit, presented as edition no. 8 of 25. Standing 20.5 cm high, the sculpture depicts an elongated female figure carrying a rectangular handbag. Its angular shoulders, abstract head and slender proportions create a distinctive silhouette, balancing geometric reduction with a recognisable human presence. The dark patinated bronze surface reveals subtle variations in texture and tone, while the gently asymmetrical posture lends the figure a sense of understated movement. The simplified contours and carefully defined spaces between the arms and body emphasise Kallweit's sculptural approach, in which proportion, gesture and negative space become essential elements of expression.
Viewed from different angles, Elsie reveals changing relationships between line, volume and silhouette. The contrast between the elongated figure and the precisely defined handbag introduces an everyday detail into an otherwise highly abstract composition.
